Really this post should be called sweet teeth because there is no way that one little tooth in my mouth could make me love or crave sweets the way that I do. I simply love them, most kinds, and chocolate in particular. I can think of very few sweets that I don’t like and the things I used to not like (coconut, for example) I now love, so it’s only a matter of time before I will be totally satisfied with any type of sugary goodness.
The best part about training for this marathon is that it gives me a little more liberty to eat just a tad more than I should normally. It also allows me to reward myself with tasty treats and not feel guilty about it. I think I have managed to have dessert every day this week after dinner. Growing up, my sister and I would have to be members of the “clean plate club” in order to have dessert and while I still strive to be a member of that club I’m likely to have dessert even if I didn’t finish my dinner. Ah, the joys of adulthood!
I hope you’re not reading this post while you’re hungry because I am about to rattle off all the things I love, mostly because I want to. I try not to go overboard with desserts and it’s not as though I’m eating German chocolate cake every day, but I sure do like to satisfy my sweet teeth. My “go to” for a quick fix is a Quaker’s Chewy Granola Bar (or two). My husband and I are bulk shoppers so there is usually not a shortage of these and my favorite is S’mores.
Ok, ready? In no particular order, here are just a handful of sweets that I love: chocolate covered pretzels, rice krispie treats, bread pudding, any kind of brownies, magic bars, lemon squares, carrot cake, rum cake, chocolate covered strawberries, pecan pie, black bottom cupcakes, mint chocolate chip milkshakes, Reese’s pieces, and the long list goes on.
I really believe that it’s ok to indulge every now and then and trying to deny the sweet teeth is just plain silly. They will win every time. So what do you love?
I wouldn’t want to leave you hanging, so here’s a recipe for my best friend’s mother’s magic bars. Feel free to share your best sweet recipes too!
cooking time: 25 min. preheat oven: 350
3 c. Graham cracker crumbs
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 c. melted butter
2 c. semi-sweeet chocolate chips
2 c. butterscotch chips
1 8oz. package flaked coconut
2 cans Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milke
Mix crumbs, sugar, and butter. Pat in bottom of 13×9 inch greased pan. Sprinkle chips on top of crust. Sprinkle coconut over chips. Pour milk evenly over all. Bake at 350 for about 25 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Cool before cutting. Share immediately so as to avoid eating the entire pan; trust me, you’ll want to!
